Hennessey Venom F5 Supercar To Have Insane Horsepower

Texas-based tuners Hennessey Performance have been cranking out some of the world’s most powerful modified production cars for over a decade. Now, they have taken another step towards releasing their first ground-up supercar, the Venom F5. At this year’s Monterey Car Week, Hennessey gave the public a first glimpse at the heart and soul of the Venom F5, its custom-built 7.6-liter, twin-turbocharged V8.

Hennessey claims their engine will create up to 1,600 horsepower and 1,300 lb-ft of torque. Its billet-aluminum construction, with steel cylinder sleeves, helps to keep weight low, a critical stat for the blistering acceleration stats Hennessey has predicted: 0-186 mph in under 10 seconds and 0-249 mp in under 20 seconds. The twin-turbos feature billet aluminum compressor wheels and ball bearings and will run up to 24 psi of boost.


The massive engine and its enormous duo of turbos gives Hennessey Hope that they will be able to break the magical 300 mile per hour mark, setting a new record for world’s fastest production car. (The current world-beater is Koenigsegg’s Agera RS, with a verified top speed of 284.55 mph and a two-way average of 277.9 mph.)

Remarkably, Hennessey will offer the Venom F5 with both a single-clutch automatic transmission and a six-speed stick shift—eschewing the tendency among the world’s other hypercar manufacturers to stick with dual-clutch automatics. For context, the Venom F5’s 1,300 horses beat out the Bugatti Chiron and Koenigsegg Regera by around 100 hp, and should be the standard-bearer for internal combustion engines (the Rimac C_Two produces 1,914 horsepower, but it utilizes a hybrid drivetrain).

The Venom F5 is the successor to Hennessey’s former world record setting car, the Venom GT. But the Venom Gt was built on the platform of a highly-modified Lotus Exige and featured a GM LSX V8 rather than the in-house-developed engine motivating the F5. Besides setting straight-line records, the F5 will head to the NĂĽrburgring with hopes to squash the Porsche 911 GT2 RS’s current rear-wheel-drive lap time of 6:47.3.

Hennessey has long held that production numbers for the Venom F5 will be limited to only 24 units, and has now confirmed that the first 15 are already sold. Pricing starts at $1.6 million, and can reach $2.2 million with every options box checked.
