Women’s Soccer heads to Evansville on Sunday

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University (4-3-2) is looking to get back-on-track on Sunday at Evansville (1-5-4) in its fourth conference match of the season.

  • Southern Illinois is 4-3-2 and 1-1-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play heading into Sunday’s match.
  • The Salukis fell to Missouri State, 2-0, on Thursday night at home. The loss was SIU’s first since Aug. 25, and ended a six-game unbeaten streak that lasted from Sept. 1 to Sept. 25.
  • During the unbeaten streak, Southern Illinois held a record of 4-0-2 and out-scored its opponents, 10-4. It was the longest run of games without a defeat in program history.

  • Dodd’s 19 shots are the most on the team. The forward’s seven shots-on-goal are tied for a team-high, along with senior defender Paris Walsh.

Head Coach Craig Roberts

  • Roberts is in his first season as Southern Illinois’ head coach. For the last two seasons, Roberts served as the head coach at Grambling State, where he led the Tigers to a combined record of 17-9-5 and back-to-back trips to the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship match.
  • Prior to Grambling State, Roberts coached nine seasons at Ball State, totaling 99 wins to become the winningest coach in program history. Under his guidance, the Cardinals won four-consecutive Mid-American Conference West Division titles from 2015-2018 and claimed back-to-back MAC regular-season championships in 2015 and 2016.
  • Roberts’ first head coaching job was with UT Martin, which went from 2006-2009. In 2009, he and the Skyhawks won their first-ever Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship.
  • Outside of collegiate soccer, Roberts also has experience on an international level. From 2014-16, he was an assistant coach on the Haitian Women’s National Team. During this time, he also served as the head coach of the U-17 Haitian National Team. After Haiti, Roberts was an assistant coach with the Puerto Rican Women’s National Team from 2016-19.

Looking at Evansville

  • The Aces hold a record of 1-5-4 and are 0-2-2 so far in Valley action.
  • In its last match, Evansville scored a late equalizer to come away with a 2-2 draw vs. Northern Iowa on Thursday night.
  • Hailey Autenrieb scored the team’s first goal in the 69th minute to level the match at 1-1. After conceding from the spot in the 77th minute, the Aces rallied to score the game-tying goal in the 88th minute through Emily Ormson.
  • The Aces have tallied back-to-back draws, with their other one coming on Sept. 25 vs. Murray State (0-0).
  • Evansville has not won in its last seven matches, going 0-4-3 during that span. The Aces’ last victory was on Aug. 28 vs. Morehead State (2-1).
  • Ormson leads the Aces in goals with three on the season. Autenrieb is second with two.
  • Monique Landrum is the team’s leader in assists, tallying two so far this year.
  • Myia Danek has played the most minutes in-goal for the Aces, playing 450 in five matches played. Danek has allowed seven goals and made 19 saves. Sophie Lindner has also been featured in-goal for Evansville, playing in four matches and 360 minutes. Lindner has given up six goals, and made 15 saves.
  • Evansville’s head coach is Chris Pfau. Pfau was the program’s head coach from 2005-07, and made his return in December of 2019.

Series History

  • Sunday’s contest will be the third all-time between the two programs. They have met in each season since 2020.
