Higher Rewards Rates
The Freedom Flex offers 5% cash back on up to $ 1,500 in categories that rotate quarterly (requires activation), 5% on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards®, 3% on dining and drugstores and 1% on all other purchases.
Depending on how you spend your money, you could potentially earn more rewards with the Freedom Flex, even with unpredictable quarterly rotating bonus categories.
Better 0% APR Promotion
Both the Freedom Flex and the Autograph Card offer an introductory 0% APR promotion, but the Freedom Flex’s offer is better in a couple of ways.
With the Freedom Flex, you’ll get a 0% intro APR for 15 months from account opening on purchases and balance transfers, then a variable APR of 17.24% – 25.99% applies. Intro balance transfer fee of either $ 5 or 3% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater in the first 60 days, after that either $ 5 or 5% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater applies. By comparison, the Autograph Card offers a 0% introductory APR on purchases for 12 months from account opening. After that, a variable APR of 17.24%, 22.24% or 27.24% applies for purchases and balance transfers. The card has a balance transfer fee of up to 5%; minimum $ 5.
If you want a little longer to pay off a purchase interest-free or you want to transfer a balance from another card, the Freedom Flex is the better choice.
As a Mastercard, the Freedom Flex comes with a set of discounts and rewards with popular merchants, including Lyft, Fandango, HelloFresh and ShopRunner. You’ll also get purchase protection, extended warranty protection, trip cancellation and interruption insurance, auto rental collision damage waiver and cell phone protection.
With the Wells Fargo Autograph Card, notable benefits include cell phone protection, auto rental collision damage waiver and roadside dispatch.
Maximizing Ultimate Rewards
While the Freedom Flex is billed as a cash-back card, you’ll technically earn Ultimate Rewards points, which you can redeem for cash back at a rate of 1 cent per point.
If you also have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve® or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, you can get even more by transferring points earned with the Freedom Flex to one of these cards and either redeeming them for travel with Chase or transferring them to one of Chase’s airline or hotel partner programs.
