Women’s Basketball Releases 22-23 Schedule Beginning Title Defense

CHARLOTTE, NC – Charlotte women’s basketball will play a 29-game schedule during the 2022-23 season, 14 inside Halton Arena, with a host of power five opponents and a trip to Daytona Beach in November. The 49ers are coming off of a regular season and tournament championship last season earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament.

“We have a tough schedule that will prepare our team for another strong season and postseason run,” began reigning Head Coach of the Year Dear Consuegra. “I believe Conference USA will be the most competitive it has been during our time in the league and our non-conference slate will prepare us for so many difficult contests. I’m looking forward to the many regional matchups for our fans so whether home or away, Niner Nation can be there to support us. “

STARTING WITH THREE OF FOUR AT HOME

Charlotte hosts their first regional rival App. State on Monday, November 7th in a doubleheader with the men’s team to open up the new year. After Coppin State ends the week, the first road test comes up with NC State on Wednesday, November 16th. The Wolfpack won the ACC last year before falling to UConn in double OT of the NCAA Bridgeport Regional Final. VCU, a WNIT qualifier last season, will travel to Halton Arena on Sunday, November 20th.

THANKSGIVING IN DAYTONA BEACH

This year’s Thanksgiving trip takes the 49ers down to Daytona Beach for a pair of contests against Cincinnati on Friday, November 25th followed by the first-ever meeting with Illinois on Saturday. Both games at the “World’s Most Famous Beach” will take place at the Ocean Center in the heart of Daytona Beach.

DECEMBER DUO

The final month of 2022 begins with a road trip down to Clemson on December 8th before a highly-anticipated rematch with Wake Forest at home three days later. Last year, the Demon Deacons squeaked by with a 55-49 win in Winston-Salem on their way to a WNIT berth.

C-USA OPENER, CROSSTOWN RIVAL

The Conference USA season begins early on December 19th in a home contest with UAB. The Niners travel to Davidson for another big rematch just two days later prior to the Christmas break.

TARGET ON BACK, ALL THE TIME

New Year’s weekend cranks up the C-USA slate for the rest of the season beginning with a tough road trip to Middle Tennessee and then the first of two championship game rematches with Louisiana Tech on New Year’s Eve. The Niners stormed back to take the C-USA Tournament title and automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with a 68-63 win over the Lady Techsters in Frisco last March.

HOST OF HOME GAMES IN JANUARY

The 2023 calendar flips over to January when the Niners will host five of their seven games during the month in a key home stretch. The FIU-FAU duo hits the first weekend before one of the toughest road trips of the year sending Charlotte to UTSA and UTEP for a Saturday-Monday series January 14th and 16th. Upon return home, the second meeting with Middle Tennessee and firsts against WKU and Rice round out the January stretch.

FEBRUARY ROAD WARRIORS, PLAY4KAY

February opens with the return trip to Florida for a pair of games against the Panthers and Owls before UTEP and North Texas visit during the second week. The Miners head east for a Wednesday night contest on February 8th before the Niners annual Play4Kay game against North Texas on Saturday, the 11th. A lone road game at WKU, senior day festivities prior to the Louisiana Tech home game on the 18th followed by a second trip to Texas to face North Texas and Rice round out the final full month of play.

MADNESS MONTH

Thursday, March 2nd will mark the final home game of the year for the Niners when they host UTSA before ending the regular season on the road at UAB two days later. Tournament title defense will take place March 8-11 at the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas in their first C-USA Championship appearance.
