What is Frontier Airlines’ carry-on size limit?

Depending on where you’re located in the country and where you want to travel, flying Frontier could very well be the most economical option for you. In locations where the airline operates, this no-frills option often has the most affordable ticket prices in the industry. But as with all things in life, you don’t get anything for free.

To make up for these cheaper ticket prices, Frontier has to charge for all other incidentals such as in-flight meal service, entertainment and WiFi (if offered at all), and, of course, luggage. Unlike other airlines, Frontier’s policy and pricing aren’t as straightforward as they could be, so let’s dive in and learn everything you need to know about this airline’s carry-on policy.

Frontier carry-on policy

While most of the major airlines in the country like Delta or American Airlines will let you bring a carry-on bag on your flight free of charge, Frontier charges all passengers extra for it. The only bag that Frontier passengers can travel with free of charge is a personal item, which is limited to something that can fit underneath the seat in front of you.

As for carry-on luggage, all passengers are limited to just one bag and the pricing will vary from ticket to ticket and from flight to flight. Unfortunately, the company does not provide standard carry-on pricing to make it easy, you have to either have a trip planned already or know when and where you’re flying before you’ll be able to see what the bag will cost you.

We’ll get into the size and weight limits shortly, but you’ll want to really pay attention to these restrictions if you’re flying Frontier because the fees will just keep stacking up if you’re forced to check it at the gate because you exceed the limits. Oversized bags will face an additional $ 75 fee, and overweight bags will cost you an extra $ 50 to $ 100 per bag.

These fees are also per direction, so it could be doubled if you face the same fees on your return flight!

Frontier carry-on size limit

Even though you’ll have to pay extra to bring a carry-on bag onboard your next Frontier flight, you’ll actually be allowed to bring a bit bigger bag than you can with other airlines. According to Frontier’s baggage policy, carry-on bags are limited to 24 “x 16” x 10 “including wheels and handles. This means you have up to 50 linear inches (24 + 16 + 10), which is more than the FAA-recommended 45 linear inches for most carry-on policies.

These limits are actually bigger than the industry-standard carry-on restrictions of 22 ”x 14” x 9 ”that most major airlines use, so you have a bit more leeway with Frontier. While true, you might be better off just buying a normal-sized carry-on so you can use it on whichever airline you fly.

With that in mind, here are some carry-on bags that meet Frontier’s carry-on size limits:

Frontier personal item size

Even though Frontier seemingly charges for just about everything, all passengers are still able to bring a free personal item onboard with every ticket purchase. Like most airlines, Frontier stipulates that your personal item must fit under the seat in front of you. But unlike many airlines, there are also specific size limits you have to keep in mind.

When flying Frontier, your personal item is limited to 18 “x 14” x 8 “. The good thing about these size limits is that they’re big enough to cover just about any normal personal item you would use for any other airline. So here are a few options for you to consider that meet these size limits:
