Air Canada and American Airlines are some of the airlines that are set to offer direct flights from several US and Canadian destinations to Cozumel starting in October. The announcement comes as the summer season gradually comes to an end in the Mexican Caribbean and travelers look to book their fall vacations.

Several airlines have recently announced new direct flights to the popular resort island of Cozumel starting in October, with more routes opening up in November as well. Cozumel International Airport is a relatively small airport, welcoming some 530,000 passengers in 2021. With new flights being planned, this number is expected to grow significantly this year.

American Airlines is the first airline to offer new direct flights to the island this fall Charlotte, starting on October 8 with a weekly departure. Flights start at $370 one-way, although cheaper fares are also available when booking in advance, with a duration of 3 hours. American is also launching new direct flights from Philadelphia to Cozumel starting November 5 with a once-per-week departure. Tickets are currently on sale, starting at $280 one-way.

There is also good news in store for Canadian travelers, who can fly non-stop from Toronto to Cozumel starting November 6 with Air Canada. The 4-hour direct flight is operated by Air Canada’s subsidiary, Air Canada Rouge, and the new route has a frequency of one weekly flight. One-way tickets in mid-November are selling for $425.

Several other US-based airlines already fly to Cozumel, including United Airlines, whose passengers can hop on a direct flight from Houston to the popular resort destination. The low-cost operator Southwest Airlines also operates a route to Cozumel from its Houston Hobby hub, with return tickets on sale for as low as $290 over the fall period.

Passengers on American Airlines can enjoy complimentary snacks and soft drinks during their flight, even when choosing the most affordable Basic Economy fare. Air Canada passengers can also enjoy those same benefits, and can also enjoy entertainment onboard with the airline’s Player in-flight entertainment system.

According to Pablo Aguilar Torres, a spokesperson for the Quintana Roo Council Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), the recently-announced flights mean that Cozumel International Airport will likely exceed last year’s passenger numbers as the island’s popularity continues to soar.

Passengers flying to the Caribbean island have several advantages. While they can enjoy one of the top resort sites in the region, they can conveniently travel from Cozumel to several other Mexican destinations including Mérida, which will be served by a new non-stop flight starting September 4 with Aeromar. Moreover, Cozumel’s airport is less crowded, as it handles significantly fewer passengers than its Cancun counterpart, which has reported huge lines and delays over the summer.

These Are The Top Things To See And Do In Cozumel

Cozumel is the ideal destination for beach and sea lovers. The crystal-clear Caribbean sea that surrounds the sunny island is recognized as one of the top diving destinations globally. Visitors can book tours of the nearby reefs, which are some of the largest in the world. Ideal for both beginners and more experienced divers, Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park features a stunning array of colorful reefs and aquatic species.

Sun-seeking tourists will also find a variety of tropical beaches in Cozumel. From remote and almost untouched stretches of white-sand beaches to restaurant and resort-lined beaches, there’s a little something for everyone. Some of the top choices include Playa Caletita, located in the heart of the island and close to the ferry terminal. Another great choice is Playa San Francisco, which offers some of the clearest waters for snorkeling.
