Manistee Mystery Trip leads to Cedar Polka Festival

Hello Manistee County! I hope you are having a great weekend and are enjoying the weather and the last week of summer. I have been feeling a little blue because I haven’t taken advantage of much again this summer. I seem to be so busy working and when I am not working, I seem to always have something that needs to be done at home.

So, with summer coming to an end soon, we did have our senior summer picnic this week at the Lions’ pavilion at First Street Beach. We had a large turnout, which is always so fun. Everyone brought such wonderful foods and Paul cooked up burgers and dogs on the grill. We had some great music with Cheryl Wolfram who plays a lot of venues and she did a fantastic job. Thank you to everyone who came and spent time at the beach with us. Without you this would never be possible.

This week we had “Where the Crawdad Sings” for our Movie & Popcorn Day. I haven’t seen it yet, but everyone I spoke with who did see it said it was a wonderful movie. I hope everyone enjoyed the film and thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Vogue Theater for letting us come and enjoy.

Wednesday, we had bingo and our celebrity caller was county commissioner Jeffery Dontz. Everyone had a great time. It is nice when our City and County leaders come in for some fun. Thanks Jeff for spending some time with us at the Manistee County Council on Aging.

Thursday, we had our August Mystery Trip. We went up to Cedar, Michigan and had many interesting things to do. Starting Thursday through the weekend is their Cedar Polka Festival, which I hear is a great time for everyone and anyone who loves polka music and loves to dance. We were there during the day and we got to enjoy some wonderful little stores like the Polish Art Center and Wool & Honey and a few more. Then off to Bel Lago Vineyards and Winery for a lovely lunch and drinks. They had us in their large tent and we could wander the grounds and enjoy the beauty of the vineyards. Then on the way home we stopped for a bit of ice cream for dessert. Thank you to everyone at Cedar — it was a great place for a visit.

The group who put on last year’s Sleighbell Craft Show at the Wagoner Community Center have been here again, measuring and planning for this year’s craft show. It is amazing how much work goes into something like that. If you have any questions about the craft show you can always give us a call and we will get you in touch with the group in charge.

This week we have a lot of our regular programs going on, which is great for the staff. There is Reflexology, Pinochle & Mah Jongg on Monday. We have Sit & Get Fit on Tuesday and Thursday and Toe Tapping on Tuesday. Fun Bingo on Wednesday and Euchre on Friday. Make sure you pick up the newsletter to see what we have planned for you in September.

We got our final batch of Project FRESH coupons the other day. If you haven’t picked yours up yet, stop by the office. We are offering two booklets per household, as long as they hold out.

I hope you have a great week and remember to try something new!
