Bilt Rewards

  • Bilt Rewards just added British Airways Executive Club as its 10th airline transfer partner.
  • Next month, Aer Lingus AerClub and Iberia Plus will join as partners as well.
  • You can use Avios points from these programs to book award flights on Oneworld partners like American Airlines.

Since it launched in 2021, the Bilt Rewards program has continued to evolve by adding new partners, joining forces with Wells Fargo to issue the Bilt Mastercard®

and rolling out its own travel portal.

Now there’s another reason to consider joining Bilt Rewards and opening the Bilt Mastercard® – it’s just added British Airways Executive Club as its 10th airline transfer partner. And in September 2022, Aer Lingus AerClub and Iberia Plus will join the roster, which also includes popular airline and hotel programs such as American Airlines AAdvantage and World of Hyatt.

The addition of these partners makes Bilt Rewards points even more flexible if you want to use them for travel. Here’s why it’s such good news for program members.

We’re focused here on the rewards and perks that come with each card. These cards won’t be worth it if you’re paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it’s important to pay your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only spend what you can afford to pay.

British Airways, Aer Lingus, and Iberia have something in common: They’re all owned by International Airlines Group (IAG) and have a common loyalty currency, Avios. In fact, you can transfer Avios between your accounts with these three airlines (plus Qatar Airways), which makes it easy to redeem through the program with the best award prices for your desired flight.

Transfers from Bilt Rewards to British Airways (and soon Aer Lingus and Iberia) are at a 1: 1 ratio, as with its other airline and hotel partners, and in 1,000-point increments. Transfers should be nearly instant, which makes it convenient for those times when you find available award seats and need to book quickly.

With the addition of British Airways, Aer Lingus, and Iberia, Bilt Rewards now has 14 airline and hotel partners:

Why transfer Bilt Rewards points to Avios?

You might not think the addition of three European airline partners would be good news for US-based travelers, but that’s far from true. British Airways Avios points (as well as Avios from Aer Lingus and Iberia) are incredibly useful not only for flights on their own planes, but also for award flights on Oneworld alliance partners like American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and Alaska Airlines.

These carriers have distance-based award charts, meaning the number of points you’ll need for a ticket depends on the distance flown. As a result, there are numerous award chart sweet spots (flights that cost fewer points to book compared to using miles from another program) that can be a real bargain.

For example:

  • Partner flights on American Airlines or Alaska Airlines between the US West Coast and Hawaii cost just 13,000 British Airways Avios each way in economy class during off-peak dates
  • Off-peak flights on Aer Lingus from the US East Coast to Dublin also cost 13,000 Aer Lingus Avios each way in economy class (much cheaper than most other award flights to Europe)
  • Business class flights on Iberia from the US East Coast to Madrid cost just 34,000 Iberia Avios on off-peak dates

You can learn more about how these programs work in our guide to earning and redeeming British Airways Avios points.

Bilt Rewards is ideal for renters (and more)

On its own, the Bilt Rewards program allows tenants to earn points on rent payments with no fees – as long as they rent from a landlord in Bilt’s network. But if your landlord isn’t among them, you can still earn points (fee-free!) By paying your rent through the Bilt App when you have the Bilt Mastercard®.

The Bilt Mastercard® doesn’t offer a welcome bonus, though you can earn bonus points (up to 1 million per year) for referring friends to the card. It earns:

  • 1 point for dollar on rent payments (with no fees) on up to $ 50,000 in rent payments every year
  • 2 points per dollar on travel booked directly with airlines, hotels, car rentals, or cruise lines
  • 3 points per dollar on dining (including food delivery services like Uber Eats and GrubHub)
  • 1 point per dollar on all other purchases

Just note that you must make a minimum of five transactions per statement period to earn points.

You’ll typically get the most from Bilt points by transferring them to airline and hotel partners for award travel – in fact, that’s why Insider values Bilt points as worth 1.65 cents each, on average. You can also use your points to book flights, hotels, rental cars, and activities through the Bilt Travel Portal at a rate of 1.25 cents apiece.

Other redemption options include fitness classes, merchandise, and rent discounts, plus you can even save up your rewards toward a mortgage down payment. Be sure to read our Bilt Mastercard review for more details on the program and the card’s benefits.
