HOLLY, MI – A movie filmed at one of Michigan’s most historic hotels will hold its world premiere at one of Michigan’s most historic theaters.
“Christmas at The Holly Hotel,” which was filmed on location this past winter at the inn built in 1891, will be shown to the public for the first time at the Redford Theater in Detroit, built in 1928, on Sunday, December 4.
Tickets are $35 each and can be purchased here. The red carpet premiere features hors d’oeuvres provided by the Holly Hotel and a cast meet and greet following the film.
The film centers around Kathy, played by Metro Detroit’s Jesi Jensen, who is happy with her life and career as a food critic in New York City. Her parents, the owners of the Holly Hotel, ask her to come home for Christmas. That’s when she meets a handsome police officer, played by Ohio’s Joe Kurak, which now complicates her situation.
“Holly is an absolutely beautiful town that made for a picture perfect location to shoot this film,” Jesi Jensen told MLive. “Filming at the Holly Hotel was such an honor. They went above and beyond to help make this film a success. The atmosphere is incredible, especially with the decorations, and the food is even better. Battle Alley Coffee is also an amazing spot to visit and is now one of my favorite coffee shops in Michigan.”
Along with the Holly Hotel, filming locations included Battle Alley, the Holly Police Department and Flint’s Bishop International Airport.
The movie was filmed before a fire damaged the Holly Hotel on June 21 of this year. The owners wrote on the hotel’s website that they are planning to restore the historic building and say it will be a monumental project. Writer/director Joel Paul Reisig says he’s been going to the hotel for many years and says it was a fantastic place to film.
“I discovered the Holly Hotel years ago when I got booked there as a comedian in their downstairs comedy club. Since then I’ve always stopped back as a customer at least once a year. It is a restaurant full of classic charm. They really do it up for Christmas, and I knew that this would be an amazing setting for a Hallmark-style Christmas film. The owners and staff were great to work with and the hotel looks magnificent on film. I am really glad to hear that George and Chrissy will rebuild and reopen.”
