This photo taken Sunday, July 31, 2022, shows the site of a planned Club Med hotel at the Snowbasin ski resort near Huntsville. While construction of the new Club Med Resort at Snowbasin has not yet started, the old base lodge has been torn down and a cell tower has been erected at the site. Preliminary surveying and preconstruction work is ongoing with the Club Med projected to open in late 2024.

As skiing season slowly approaches, officials at the Snowbasin resort near Huntsville have their eyes trained excitedly toward another not-too-far-off date.

As announced last year, Club Med is building overnight accommodations at Snowbasin. Club Med Senior Vice President of Development Eileen Kett said the hotel has a targeted opening date of December 2024 to early 2025.

The Club Med hotel is said to be one of the most impactful of changes ever to come to the Olympic-quality ski resort, which has never offered on-mountain lodging in its 82 years.

Snowbasin, one of the oldest continuously operating ski areas in the nation, has been looking for a partner to bring its first lodging experience to the resort since 2011, when the resort received entitlements from Weber County, according to Snowbasin General Manager Davy Ratchford.

Ratchford said Club Med was the perfect partner, as the international travel and tourism company offers week-long vacations, helping to keep rooms filled and traffic to a minimum. The year-round overnight lodging will occupy around 9 acres of slope-side space in and around the Old Day Lodge site, which was demolished to make way for the 300-room hotel.

These plans show proposed long-term development envisioned by Snowbasin officials around Earl’s Lodge, the resort’s main gathering spot. Earl’s Lodge is shown on the right side of the cluster of envisioned development depicted in the middle of the plans. The proposed Club Med resort is shown in the upper right-hand corner of the plans.

“I’m very excited for people to experience this extraordinary property when it’s complete,” Ratchford said.

Ratchford, who said he’s visited many Club Med destinations in Europe, spoke highly of the company’s attention to detail, service and on-site employee housing.

Design and planning processes are underway for the future Club Med at Snowbasin following community feedback received through a series of open houses last September, which Ratchford called “superb.”

All Club Med hotels are reportedly designed and constructed to be certified in accordance with Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology, as well as operating under Green Globe certification, which recognizes sustainable tourism.

“The community can expect an amazing local partner in Club Med,” Ratchford said.

Additional features coming to Snowbasin in 2024 include a new Ridgeline chairlift, beginner terrain and parking. Construction of a resort village is set to begin in 2025, with retail shops, residential accommodations and resort amenities.

Park City-based mountain resort developer East West Partners and Ecosign, an international planning firm, are working with Snowbasin in developing its future.
