VP Harris to visit Boston, Martha’s Vineyard on first Mass. trip

Vice President Kamala Harris will be making stops in Boston and Martha’s Vineyard on Thursday as part of her first visit to Massachusetts since assuming her current office. The White House announced Wednesday that Harris is scheduled to meet with state legislators and local leaders in Boston to discuss the fight to protect reproductive rights.Harris has spent the last several weeks traveling the country to meet with activists and state lawmakers about abortion rights following the recent Supreme Court decision that overturned constitutional protections for abortion that had been in place for nearly 50 years.After the roundtable, the vice president will then travel to Martha’s Vineyard for two Democratic National Committee finance events. Harris’ visit to Massachusetts comes just over two weeks after President Joe Biden was in the state to speak about climate change and outline the executive action his administration intends to take. Biden visited the shuttered Brayton Point Power Station in Somerset, a facility that was one of the biggest power plants in New England and will now play a big role in harnessing renewable energy. Somerset is one of the communities along the South Coast where the burgeoning offshore wind sector is slowly taking shape.
