Californian airline Advanced Air has been awarded a two-year contract to operate out of Gallup Municipal Airport in New Mexico. From August 2022, Advanced Air will offer one daily flight between Gallup and Phoenix Sky Harbor.
Gallup gets passenger flights again
Gallup Municipal Airport (GUP) has been awarded a grant from the State of New Mexico that will see the airport benefit from regular passenger services again.
City officials have chosen Advanced Air to operate a new service between Gallup and Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX), awarding the California-based carrier a two-year contract beginning on August 1st, 2022.
Gallup Mayor Louie Bonaguidi said,
“We welcome Advanced Air to connect us to the outside world, given we have the railroad through BNSF and the major highway I-40. The horizon to the future is bright and exciting.”
Fixed fares are priced at $ 75 + tax each way. Customers can also purchase packets of 10 tickets at a discounted price of $ 67.50 + tax, for an all-inclusive cost of $ 826.60.

Gallup has been awarded the first grant from New Mexico’s Rural Air Service Enhancement (RASE) Act, which aims to support smaller airports lacking regular air services. The grant offers a mix of State and City-allocated funds to incentivize airlines.
Representative Patty Lundstrom added,
“The RASE Act was created with the sole intention to spur economic development in rural New Mexico, and I’m beyond pleased for Gallup, a city that serves as an economic hub for 70,000 people on a weekly basis, to be the first recipient of this grant. “
First passenger flights in over a decade
According to the VisitGallup website, Gallup Municipal Airport has not had regular air services for over 12 years. The airport is climate on the famous US Route 66 highway and is around a two-hour drive from Albuquerque, the nearest major city.

Advanced Air will operate flights to Phoenix with its nine-seater King Air 350 turboprop fleet. Passengers onboard will be treated to a range of complimentary snacks and refreshments during their flight.
Advanced Air adds to New Mexico network
Gallup becomes the fourth New Mexico destination in the Advanced Air network. The carrier also provides services to Silver City’s Grant County Airport (SVC), Albuquerque’s International Sunport Airport (ABQ), and Taos Regional (TSM).

Advanced Air was founded in 2005 and is based in Hawthorne, California. The airline boasts a range of aircraft available for charters, including the Challenger 300, Dornier 328, King Air 350 and Learjet 75.
