IndiGo Flight Evacuated Following False Bomb Threat

On Thursday, an IndiGo flight scheduled to take off from Jayprakash Narayan Airport (PAT) in Patna was grounded after a passenger claimed to be carrying a bomb in his bag. Authorities detained the passenger and conducted a thorough check on all bags onboard the flight, finding no signs of any explosive material. The flight, bound for Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), was later canceled as a precautionary measure.

Sequence of events

IndiGo flight 6E 2126 is a scheduled service from Patna, the capital city of the Indian state of Bihar, to DEL. The flight was to be operated by a 6-year-old Airbus A320neo aircraft registered as VT-ITL, leaving PAT at 2020 hours local time for a 2210 arrival into the national capital. All times are IST.


However, the passenger called out the bomb threat shortly after boarding was complete. Naturally, the plane wasn’t allowed to depart, and all passengers were deboarded. Security officials stationed at the airport were alerted along with the bomb disposal squad, which later checked all bags and the entire aircraft.

Even sniffer dogs were called in, but no bomb was found, and the plane was declared safe after around three hours of investigating. Still, flight number 2126 was canceled, which meant further inconvenience for the traumatized passengers. The local police detained the unruly passengers. , and several reports emerged saying he was mentally unstable. Another passenger claimed he was taken to the hospital along with his parents.

Station House Officer Vinod Peter told The Times of India,

“According to Bedi’s parents, their son works in a private company in Patna and they live in Delhi. Few days back, they get the call from the company that their son’s sound unwell and they should take him. They reached to Patna and were returning. Back to Delhi on Thursday evening. After the trio boarded the flight, the man was reluctant to go. Before closing the aircraft’s door, he started shouting that there is bomb in the flight. Immediately the CISF personnel detained him for questioning. Luggage of all passengers and aircraft will be thoroughly checked. ”

Passengers taken care of

After flight 2126 was canceled, a passenger’s son took to Twitter to give a detailed account of what passengers were going through. The user said IndiGo had accommodated stranded passengers on another Delhi-bound flight scheduled to leave the following morning. He also said the airline. staff had provided her mother with a hotel room and airport transfers, owing to’her medical condition.’However, it cannot be verified if all passengers were provided with such facilities.

The replacement flight, number 2999, left PAT at 0927 the following morning, 27 minutes after its scheduled departure time, and reached DEL at 1045 safely, data from shows. This flight was operated using the same aircraft as before.
