SAN ANTONIO, TX – UNT softball will travel to UTSA Friday at Roadrunner Field for another conference series. The Mean Green (21-7, 10-2) are coming off a series sweep over UTEP last weekend and sit at second in the league standings. UTSA (11-20, 4-5) is fourth in the western division of the conference.

HISTORY AGAINST OPPONENT

UNT holds a 22-12 record against UTSA all-time with the last game taking place in 2021. The Mean Green hosted the Roadrunners for a four-game series in Denton at Lovelace Stadium last year where they swept the Roadrunners, including a pair shutout wins.

The Mean Green started off the series with a 7-0 shutout win led by RHP Hope Trautwein who struck out 17 batters in a complete game. It gave North Texas its third 30-win season in program history.

On day two of the weekend, UNT held UTSA to two runs in two games. In the first game of the day, GiGi Wall pitched 6.0 innings and struck out five batters before Trautwein relieved her to pick up her seventh save of the season. Kailey Gamble led the offense with two doubles as North Texas won 4-2 in game one.

UNT shut out UTSA 1-0 in the second game on Saturday as freshman pitcher Janie Worthington tossed a complete-game shutout and struck out 12 batters. Maya Wark scored the lone run of the game in the sixth inning on an error after leading off with a double.

In the final game of the weekend, Gamble drove in the first run on a single to grab a 1-0 lead before picking up another RBI in the bottom of the sixth on a sac fly to retake the lead 2-1. Trautwein recorded strikeout No. 200 in the sixth inning and picked up the win while Worthington picked up her first career save to finish the sweep with a 3-1 win.

UNT’s TOP PERFORMERS

Sophomore infielder Kailey Gamble continues to be a consistent source of offense for UNT. Gamble has recorded the most RBI for North Texas in the last 10 games with 13 RBI. She has recorded eight home runs and 28 RBI on the season.

Redshirt sophomore outfielder Molly Rainey leads the team in batting average (.571), hits (8), doubles (3, and total bases (17) in the last five games. Rainey won Conference USA Player of the Week this week after her dominant showing against UTEP. Ada, Okla. native finished with a .750 batting average (6-for-8), three runs, two doubles, two home runs, five RBI, and 14 total bases against the Miners.

Freshman RHP Skylar Savage (8-3) continued to dominate against the Miners. Savage finished the weekend with a 2-0 record as well as a save. In her lone start, she pitched a complete game and struck out seven batters. The freshman pitched 9.2 innings and finished the weekend with 12 strikeouts.
