UP assembly elections: Free electricity for irrigation, minimum 10-year jail for ‘love jihad’, lists BJP manifesto | Lucknow News

LUCKNOW: Reaching out to farmers and youth, while BJP assured free electricity for irrigation and a job for every household, it also promised to ensure a minimum 10-year sentence for those ‘responsible’ for ‘love jihad’ in its Sankalp Patra for the UP elections released on Tuesday.
The highly-anticipated poll manifesto, released by Union home minister Amit Shah in Lucknow, and titled ‘Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra 2022’ sought to please all, cutting across caste lines, addressing various sectors and communities, farmers, women, and youth, besides conveying the affirmation for development of Hindu religious sites like Ayodhya and Mathura.

The most significant resolution was for farmers who have been promised free electricity for irrigation — a move to counter Samajwadi Party’s election sop.
BJP also announced allocation of Rs 5,000 crore for irrigation schemes, Rs 25,000 crore Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Agri Infrastructure Mission for setting up cold storage chains, godowns, processing centres, and Rs 5,000 crore for modernization of sugar mills besides setting up new ones.
The also promised to pay cane growers within 14 days of the delivery to the mill.

In a bid to entice farmers, the party also promised strengthening Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat and paddy, besides allocating Rs 1,000 crore to Bahamashah Cost Stabilisation Corpus for ensuring MSP for potatoes, tomatoes, and onions.
The promises to farmers are pertinent with just 24 hours left for polling in west UP that saw farm protesters over the three farm laws repealed later.
BJP also announced starting six food parks to boost the food processing industry and horticultural sector.
Seeking to strengthen the cooperative sector, it announced the Nand Baba Milk Mission for facilitating milk producers through marketing at village level. The party promised the setting up 4,000 new Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and providing a financial grant of Rs 18 lakh to each.
In a bid to woo the Nishad community, BJP has promised a 40% subsidy to boatmen on the purchase of a boat worth Rs 1 lakh, besides a 25% subsidy on starting fishery and setting up six ultra-model fish mandis. BJP has a pre-poll alliance with NISHAD Party which focuses on Nishads who wield electoral influence in around 70 assembly seats, mainly in east UP.
Reaching out to women, BJP promises two free LPG cylinders on Holi and Diwali under Ujjwala scheme that had played a key role in its 2017 win.
BJP has also promised scooty for meritorious girls under Rani Laxmi Bai Scheme to even the score with Congress party which made a similar promise in its manifesto.
The saffron outfit also promised free travel in public transport for women above 60 besides increasing the Kanya Sumangala Scheme grant from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000, provisioning Rs 1 lakh for the marriage of poor girls, allocation of Rs 1,000 crore for pink toilets and increasing pension for the widow and destitute to Rs 1,500 per month.
Expressing its resolve for improving women safety further, BJP promises installation of CCTV cameras at all public places and educational institutes, besides setting up 3,000 pink police booths.
Promising avenues of employment for females, BJP has promised to double the number of women battalions to six, constituting 5 lakh women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and providing loans up to Rs 1 lakh to 1 crore women.
The party categorically underlined its commitment for crackdown on criminals with a provision for 10 years’ imprisonment for those accused of ‘Love Jihad’, Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) centers at Meerut, Rampur, Azamgarh, Kanpur and Bahraich.
The state government has already initiated construction of an ATS center in Saharanpur.
The Sankalp Patra reiterates BJP’s commitment of strengthening the economy and industrial activity in the state, making UP number 1 economy, doubling per capita income and investment worth Rs 10 lakh crore. It also promises to make UP a textile hub as it provides employment to 5 lakh youths. This will be alongside the six industrial parks for the MSME sector.
In the education sector, BJP promises to convert all primary schools into ‘smart schools’ by equipping them with the necessary furniture, upgrading all 30,000 secondary schools, starting smart classes through audio-visual projectors and providing wi-fi facility. The centers of higher and vocational education, including ITIs and polytechnics, will also be strengthened.
BJP government has already initiated Maa Shakumbhari Devi University in Saharanpur and Major Dhyanchand Sports University in Meerut.
On the employment and youth welfare front, BJP promises to ensure employment to at least one member of each family and filling up all vacancies in government departments and institutions.
The party claims it provided employment and earning opportunities to 3 crore youth in the last five years.
Under Vivekananda Youth empowerment, BJP promises to distribute 2 crore smartphones and tablets.
On the medical and health front, BJP promises a medical college and diagnostic unit in each district, six mega health parks, and making UP free of TB by 2025.
For sports promotion, the party promises sports infrastructure in government schools and colleges, free sports kits to players and construction of gymnasiums in every gram panchayat. Academics will be constructed for various sports and yoga teachers will be employed in schools and colleges.
